The native range of this species is E. & SE. China to Vietnam, S. Korea, Central & S. Japan to Taiwan. It is a tree and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

Distribution:
Son La (Moc Chau), Ha Giang (Dong Van), Vinh Phuc (Tam Dao), Hoa Binh, Quang Ninh, Ninh Binh. The tree grows naturally in tropical evergreen broadleaf forests, at an altitude of 600 – 1400m.
