The native range of this species is Arunachal Pradesh to China (Yunnan, Guangxi) and N. Indo-China. It is a climber and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

Lai Chau (Sin Ho), Lao Cai (Sa Pa). The tree grows naturally in mountainous areas, up to 1500 m altitude. Rare tree (CR) has been listed in the Vietnam Red Book.
