The native range of this species is SE. China to Indo-China. It is a rhizomatous geophyte and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.

Uses: 

Used as a digestive stimulant, eating delicious rice, treating flatulence, abdominal pain, loose stools, vomiting, belching, stomach pain, fever, malaria, toothache (rhizome); malaria, indigestion, nausea, abdominal pain, cholera (fruit).

Distribution: 

Grows wild and widely cultivated in many places.

Flowering and fruiting season: 

May - September.
