The native range of this species is India (Haryana) to Himalaya and Taiwan. It is a perennial and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

Lao Cai, Son La, Ha Giang, Lang Son. The tree grows naturally in bright and humid places, mountainside, wasteland, roadside, at an altitude of 700-1,600m.
