The native range of this species is Tropical & Subtropical Asia to N. & E. Australia. It is a shrub or tree and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.

Vietnamese name: 

Mọt, Kamala, Cánh kiến, Rùm nao, Thuốc sán, Dù mào reo điẳng (Dao)

Latin name: 

Mallotus philippensis (Lam.) Muell.-Arg. – Croton philippense Lam.

Family: 

Euphorbiaceae

Uses: 

Flukes, diarrhea (Red powder surrounding the fruit). Syphilis, edema, gastric ulcer (root bark). Tapeworms (Leaf, fruit).

Distribution: 

Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh, Ninh Thuan, Kien Giang. Light-loving tree, grows naturally in secondary forests, at an altitude of 100-500 m.

Flowering and fruiting season: 

August-April
