The native range of this species is China (SE. Yunnan) to N. Vietnam. It is a shrub and grows primarly in the subtropical biome(s).

Biology and ecology:
The tree grows under the canopy of woody forests in mountainous areas, at an altitude not exceeding 300m.
Distribution:
Domestic: In Vietnam: From Lao Cai, Phu Tho (Thanh Ba: Phu Ho) to Quang Ninh (Tien Yen).
Value:
Genetic resources are relatively rare, distributed fragmented, only growing under the forest canopy. Therefore, when the forest is destroyed, the habitat of species including this species is threatened.
