The native range of this species is Tropical & Subtropical Old World. It is a scrambling annual or subshrub and grows primarly in the seasonally dry tropical biome(s). It is has social uses, as animal food and a medicine and for food.

In Vietnam: The plant grows naturally on wet wastelands, around villages throughout Vietnam.
