Breadfruit is a tropical tree, commonly cultivated for food in the Pacific Islands, Malesia (Malaysia, Indonesia, New Guinea, the Philippines and Brunei) and southern India.
Parts Used:
Root, bark, leaves - Radix, Cortex et Folium Artocarpi Altilis. Tree sap is also used.
Distribution:
In Vietnam, imported trees are commonly grown in the southern provinces.
Chemical composition:
The fruit contains up to 25% starch, 3% protein and 0.5% lipid.
Uses:
In Vietnam, leaves are used to treat edema. Sake fruit can be boiled, baked in the oven, cooked in soups or ground into a powder used to make cakes like potato flour and cakes like pancakes, or fried and cooked as a food.
