its native range is Colombia (Santander).
Synonyms:
Masdevallia purpurella subsp. nivea Luer & R.Escobar
This snow-white (nivea) masdevallia grows in northern Colombia at an altitude of about 2800 m and was first described in 1989 by Carl Luer and R. Escobar.
Masdevallia nivea is a small species, the leaves with the petiole do not exceed 7 cm. The flower stem is slightly smaller, around 4 cm. It was first thought to be a variety of Masdevallia purperella.
It differs from Masdevallia purpurella not only in the white color, but also in that it is slightly larger.
Because Masdevallia nivea grows at high altitudes in the Andes, you can expect it to bloom in our colder months. But she is blooming with me now (in July), but the inflorescences started to grow at the end of April.
