English Name:
The Tiger Striped Cattleya.
Description:
With cylindrical, slightly thickened apically pseudobulb subtended by white sheaths and carrying 2 apical, oblong-elliptic, leathery leaves with sharp to serrated edges that blooms in the mid-summer on an erect, few to several (3 to 10) flowered racemose inflorescence that is subtended by a green sheath on a newly arising pseudobulb and carrying fragrant flowers.
Distribution:
Brazil Northeast, Brazil South, Brazil Southeast.
Ecological:
Found in coastal forests below 100 m in southern Brazil as a large, bifoliate to trifoliate, warm growing epiphyte.
Flowering times:
Blooms in the mid-summer.
Flower size:
11.0 cm.
Cultivation:
Plants should be grown in medium fir bark with partial to full sun. The plant is a warm growing orchid species. Water approximately once a week. Plant can also be mounted.
