The Chinese Pholidota.

Description: 

With ovoid, sulcate pseudobulbs carrying 3, ovate-oblong to linear-lanceolate leaves that blooms in the spring on a 15 to 30 cm long, pendulous inflorescence that arises from the apex of a new growth before or as it develops the new leaves, with many (35), fragrant flowers.

Distribution:

China South-Central, China Southeast, Hainan, Myanmar, Thailand, Tibet, Vietnam (Hà Giang, Lào Cai).

Ecological:

A small sized, cool to cold growing lithophyte and epiphyte that growing on damp rocks near streams in shady as well as open areas or as an epiphyte on rain forest trees in evergreen lowland forests or primary montane forests at elevations of 300 to 2500 m.

Blooms in the spring.

Flower size:

2.0 cm.

warm to hot growing / protect from frost 

HUMIDITY:

frequent water in spring and summer, ease off water in fall and just keep barely moist during winter until new growth spotted, prefers high humidity environment.

Plants are grown from intermediate to warm temperatures in partial shade to moderate lighting. Water regularly during the summer, about once every two days and gradually reduce in the winter. Water about once every two to three weeks and gradually increase watering as new roots begin to show. Pot in a well drain medium. Pot in a plastic or clay pot with a mix of fine fir bark, tree fern fibers, and perlite or pot in New Zealand sphagnum moss.

Uses: 

Treat bronchitis, dry cough, sore throat, tonsillitis, toothache, peptic ulcer, neurasthenia, pulmonary tuberculosis (whole tree).
