Dendrobium transparens

"Dendrobium transparens Wall. is native to India, Nepal and Myanmar. In Nepal, their natural habitat stretches at heights of 700-1800 m. These orchids also occur in Sikkim, Khasi (Khasia) Hills and in Chin Hills in Myanmar. They also grow in the Garhwal region of northern India"

English Name:

The Translucent Dendrobium.

Description: 

With slender, terete, basally swollen, erect to pendulous stems carrying 5 to 7, deciduous, linear-lanceolate, recurved, acute leaves that blooms in the spring and early summer on a short, 2 to 3 flowered raceme emerging from hyaline bracts of the old leafless canes and carrying short lived, fragrant flowers.

Distribution:

Assam, Bangladesh, China South-Central, East Himalaya, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam (Sơn La, Lai Châu), West Himalaya.

Ecological:

In dense wet forests at elevations of 500 to 2100 m as a medium to large sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte.

Flowering times:

Blooms in the spring and early summer.

Flower size:

3.8 cm.

Cultivation:

Plant grows in warm to hot temperatures with medium amounts of light. Keep plant moist and fertilize during growth season. During winter reduce watering until new shoots appear. Grow in a well drain mix of sphagnum moss or medium fir bark.
