Description: 

With upright in youth, pendulous with age stems, leafy below and the apical section covered with leafy bracts that soon fall off leaving bundles of dry, leafless bracts from which the flowers emerge, carrying laterally flattened, acute, distichous, diminishing towards the apex, imbricate, often purplish leaves that blooms in the spring on the leafless, fractiflex, 5 to 10 cm long, apical portion of the stem with the successively single flowers well spaced out inflorescence arising from the tufty nodes along the leafless elongate stem.

Colours:

Sepals and petals off-white sepals, lip white fringed faint purple; column greenish-white column, anther green.

Distribution:

Borneo, Cambodia, Jawa, Laos, Lesser Sunda Is., Malaya, Myanmar, New Guinea, Philippines, Sumatera, Thailand, Vietnam.


Ecological:

In lowland and hill forests from sea level to 600 m as a medium to large sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte 

Greek dendro-bios, tree-dwelling, referring to the epiphytic growth habit of the species in the genus. Latin aloifolium, aloe-leaved, referring to the aloe-like leaves of the plant..

Blooms in the spring.

Flower size:

4.0 mm.

Cultivation:

Easy to grow either in a small pot of bark/stone/fibre mixture or on a tree-fern or wood slab. Needs warmth, bright scattered light and regular water (fide O'Byrne).
