English Name:

The Flattened Out Catasetum (refers to the flattened pouch lip).

Description: 

With clustered, fusiform pseudobulbs enveloped basally by several deciduous leaf sheaths and carrying 7 to 8, plicate, arched, oblanceolate leaves that blooms in the fall in Brazil on a male, basal, arched, 25 cm long, racemose, many flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with lanceolate stem clasping bracts with up to 18 resupinate flowers.

Brazil North.

Ecological:

At elevations of 100 to 300 m in Amazonian rain forest on dead trees and living palms as a medium sized, hot growing epiphyte.

Flowering times:

Blooms in the fall.

Flower size:

2.5 cm.

Cultivation:

Grow in intermediate to warm conditions with partially bright light. Water regularly during growing season and when plants drop leaves during dormancy reduce watering. During dormancy only water about twice a month to keep pseudobulbs from shriveling. Resume watering normally when new growths occur in spring. Plants can die easily from over watering. Plants are usually grown in bark with perlite, cork, full sphagnum moss, and tree fern. Female flowers will often be produced when high light and low moisture is present. While male flowers are produced in shadier situation of higher moisture.
