Describtion:
A shrub about 3 m tall, branches smooth, foliage coriaceous, elliptical, 10.5-13.5 cm long x 5-5.6 cm wide, bases broadly rotund or cuneate. with 9-11 pairs of lateral veins, margins serrulate: petioles, 6-7, long. Flowers, golden yellow in leaf axillaries and terminals. 4.5-5 cm diameter, short stems (1.5 mm long); bracts, 6; sepals, 6, subrotund; petals 15; stamens 3-3.2 cm long, those at the exterior connected at the base: ovaries 3 celled, styles free, 2-2.2 cm long, smooth; seed capsule globular, seed single in each locule, 1.8-2 cm in diameter.
Distribution:
Vietnam (Nam Mau village, Yen Tu. Uong Bi district, Quang Ninh province (Typus Tran Ninh 95 I 2, Vietnam National University Herbarium)).
Ecological:
This species grows along the banks of the brooks in secondary forests, altitude about 150 meters.

This species is close to C. ellphlebia Merr. but with these differences: the flowers have very short stems; the seeds are tomentous.
