Latin Name: 

Acanthephippium sylhetense Lindl.

Family:

English Name:

The Sylhet Acanthephippium (A town in Bangladesh).

Japanese name:

Enrei-shoki-ran.

Chianese name:

Tan Hua Lan - 坛花兰 .

Description: 

With ovoid to terete psuedobulbs enveloped basally by leaf sheaths and carrying three, plicate, tapering to each end leaf with a long petiole and blooms in the spring, summer and fall on a basal, short to to 9 cm long, 3 to 6 flowered inflorescence arising with a new growth with 1 to 3 fragrant, fleshy flowers.

Distribution:

Taiwan, S Yunnan (Bangladesh, NE India, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand).

Ecological:

In tropical valleys in moist shady locations in dense forests or in wooded ravines at elevations of 500 to 1500 m as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing deciduous leafed terrestrial that needs indirect light.

Flowering times:

Bloome in the spring, summer and fall.

Flower size:

2.0 cm

Cultivation:

Plants should be grown in shade with intermediate to warm temperatures. Grow in a well drained terrestrial mix with medium bark and perlite. Plants do not like to be repotted often. Keep plant media moist and water regularly during growth season. During winter reduce watering.
