Colombia.
Ecological:
At elevations of 1200 to 1500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte.
Flowering times:
Blooms in the spring.
Flower size:
1.6 cm.
Cultivation:
Temperature:
Most species of Platystele can be cultivated in intermediate to cool conditions. They will tolerate some warmer temperatures only it plenty of humidity and air movement is present, but not for long periods of time.
Light:
Most Platystele species prefer shady to partial shade conditions as the small to tiny plants tend to dry out too fast with more light
Water-Humidity:
Platystele prefer to be evenly moist and not dry out. One concern is to make sure that they are kept moist, but not soggy as the roots will rot quickly if kept soggy.
Fertilizer:
Platystele species are not heavy feeders. Dilute the strength of the fertilizer to about 1/4 to 1/3 the strength recommended and fertilize "weekly weakly" with a good all around orchid fertilizer. Since the plants are pretty much in bloom all year around when happy, there is no real season for bloom booster fertilizer.
