"Masdevallia xanthina var. pallida in cloud forests of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru at elevations of 1500 to 2800 m. It was first collected somewhere in Colombia and cultivated by Veitch and Sons in 1880. Reichenbach noted the yellow color with eye spots at the base of the sepals - a white-flowered variation with eye spots is known as Masdevallia xanthina var. pallida. This variation occurs frequently in Ecuador."
