English Name:

The Largest Bulbophyllum.

Description: 

Pseudobulbs carrying to 3, apical, oblong, apex rounded and emarginate thick and leathery leaf that blooms in the fall on a single, basal, erect, 20" [50 cm] and more long inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with many [50], small, successive opening, musky scented flowers spread out along the leaflike, flattened rachis with dentate edges.

Distribution:

Angola, Cameroon, Central African Repu, Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Gulf of Guinea Is., Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zaïre, Zimbabwe.

Ecological:

Bifoliate epiphyte and an occasional lithophyte in open woodlands and riverine forests at elevations of 600 to 2100 m.

Flowering times:

Blooms in the fall.

Flower size:

7.5 mm.

Cultivation:

Keep plant in warm to hot temperatures. Keep moist in summer seasons and do not allow mix to dry, in winter the plant needs a distinctive drying period. Keep the potting media dry and mist it occassionally. Keep good air movement to avoid fungal growth. Keep plants in shade. Pot plants in sphagnum moss, fine bark, or mounted.
