Description:
Epiphytic or lithophytic species occuring on open mossy rocks and bluffs in evergreen and semi-deciduous forests at elevations around 300 to 1100 meters with recurved, strap-shaped, fleshy leaves that blooms on an axillary, stout, to 40 cm long, racemose, erect, many flowered inflorescence with vaguely fragrant, long-lasting, very thick textured flowers occuring in the spring and summer.
Distribution:
Bangladesh, China South-Central, China Southeast, Laos, Malaya, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam (Quản Bạ, Hà Giang, Nam Cát Tiên).
Ecological:
Epiphytic on tree trunks in open forests or at forest margins; 800-1700 m.
Flowering times:
Blooms in the spring and summer.
Flower size:
7.5 cm.
Cultivation:
Plants are best grown hanged in baskets and on mounted and usually require full sunlight and intermediate to warm temperatures. If hunged the roots must be watered frequently. Plants should be grown in a large pot with media that is well drained such as tree fern fibers (for small plants),several pieces of coarse fir bark and charcoal, or sphagnum moss.
