Etymology:
The proposed name refers to 'yubarta,' a local name for the hump- back whale, in allusion to the strongly curved ("humped") column and to the la- terallobules of the lip, which are reminiscent of the humpback whale's pectoral fins.
Description:
Plant epiphytic, medium-sized, caespitose, many-Ieaved. leaves 17-30 x 7-11 mm, ovate-Ianceolate, pale green on the upper surface, green to purple on the underside, mucronate, the edges bearing a narrow rim abruptly bent at right angles to the rest of the leaf blade. Ramicauls (27) 47-53 mm long, covered by 7-8 lepanthiform sheaths. Inflorescences secund, arising from the base of the leaves and resting on the upper surface of the leaves. A single leaf may produce several inflorescences, but successively (not simultaneously). Flowers 7 mm tall, arising successively from the extremity of the inflorescence, so that each leaf bears, at most, a single open flower. Column pink, minutely tomentose, strongly curved toward the lower sepals, its distal half completely naked. Anther apical but appearing to be ventral (or subapical) owing to the strong curvature of the column. lip with two small lateral, flattened, erect, orange lobules, which, viewed frontally, look like two small horns. Appendix of the lip furry and pink. Peta/s orange, minutely tomentose. Sepals yellow and slightly translucent. Dorsal sepal with three nontransparent bands, and lateral sepals with two such bands. Fruit unknown.
