English Name:
Stamford's Epidendrum (English Orchid Enthusiast 1800's).
Description:
growing, epiphytic species with fusiform pseudobulbs carrying 3 to 4, elliptic-oblong leaves from the base of a newly formed, mature pseudobulb; one of a few species to do this in the genus Epidendrum; to 60 cm long, many flowered raceme or panicle of showy, long-lasting, fragrant flowers.
Distribution:
Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico Gulf, Mexico Southeast, Mexico Southwest, Nicaragua, Panamá, Venezuela.
Ecological:
In seasonally dry forests on large branches at elevations of 25 to 850 m.
Flowering times:
Blooms in the winter, spring, summer and fall.
Flower size:
4.0 cm.
Cultivation:
Plants grow in warm conditions and can be grown in medium size fir bark with perlite. Plant prefers drying periods between watering and bright light is recommended. Lengthen drying period a bit in the winter. Plant can remain dormant for two years after collecting date before response in cultivation.
