Family:

Orchidaceae.

Synonym Name:

Dendrobium erythroxanthum Rchb.f.

Dendrobium topaziacum Ames

English Name:

Bullen's Dendrobium (English Gardener with Low & Co. 1800's).

Description:

This species enjoys some bright sun in the morning. It is normal for leaves to yellow up and fall off in the late summer just before the plant blooms. The flowers are tiny with a lot of bright red stripes. The bunch of flowers looks like lot of lovely yellow pompoms are stuck on the leafless canes. It is pendulous & can reach upto 1 meter long pseudo bulbs/canes.

Distribution:

Philippines.

Ecological:

In evergreen lowland forests at elevations up to 1100 m.

Flowering times:

Bloom in the spring.

Flower size:

2.0 cm.

Cultivation:

First, this plant prefers to live in small pots with their roots crowded in a small area. If you try to beautify and make room for them to spread, the roots are likely to get too moist and start to rot. If you don't like the look of a big tree growing in an odd little pot, disguise it in a larger pot.

Another way to take care of this species is to give them as much light as possible. This doesn't mean leaving them in the desert sunlight, but the indoor south-facing window is where they'll thrive. In most cases, when your Dendrobium orchids are not flowering, that is the case when there is not enough sunlight. See how to Plant and Care for Dendrobium orchids.
