Native to Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Perú in extremely wet montane forests at elevations of 500 to 2800 meters as a small to medium sized, robust, warm to cold growing epiphyte. Fragant, long-lasting and showy large (8 cm) flowers.
Very similar to* M. grandiflora*, M. sanderiana, M. augustae-victoriae, M. lehmannii and others, although the shape of the labellum, in this case, is very distinctive.
Photo taken in Pastaza Province, Cantón de Santa Clara, Ecuador. About 600 m.
