Deciduous small tree, 6-10 m in height. Rough branches. Leaves are oblong-elliptical, 8-18 cm long x 5-12 cm wide, broadly cuneate base, finely serrate margin, bright green upper side, lighter underside, with reticulate veins, rough and coriaceous. Flowers are white, perfumed, grouped in terminal panicles up to 10 cm wide and long. Fruit is yellowish, up to 1 cm in diameter. Species native to China, Taiwan, Nepal, Japan, Vietnam and Bhutan. In Iturraran it can be found in areas 2, 3 and 6.
