Latin Name: Strophanthus caudatus (Linnaeus) Kurz 1877
Family: Apocynaceae
Synonym Name: Echites caudata Linnaeus; Nerium caudatum (Linnaeus) Lamarck.
Description:
It is a shrub growing from 1 - 3 metres tall, often adopting a more climbing habit with stems up to 12 metres long. The stems can be up to 15cm in diameter. The plant is sometimes harvested from the wild for local medicinal use. It is sometimes grown as an ornamenta.
Fruit season: December to March
Habitat: Primary or secondary forest, often in forest margins at elevations from sea level to around 900 metres. The tree grows naturally on the edge of open forest and scrub
Distribution: Found in Laos, Campuchia, Mianma, ThaiLan, India, Indonesia, Philippines. In Viet Nam: Found in Lạng Sơn, Bắc Ninh, Phú Thọ, Vĩnh Phúc, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Kiên Giang.
Use: The seeds are locally used as a heart stimulant
