From the dichloromethane and ethyl acetate fractions of the ethanolic extract from the leaves of Piper betle six compounds including chavibetol (1), hydroxychavicol (2), chavibetol acetate (3), 4-allylphenol (4), coniferyl aldehyde (5), and 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (6) were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods including ESI-MS, NMR and by comparison with the published data. Of these, compounds (5) and (6) have been isolated from this plant for the first time.
