Celery capsules containing 300 mg of celery seed extract have been evaluated for uric acid lowering, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities in vivo. The results showed that celery capsules at 600 mg/kg and 1200 mg/kg taken continuously for 5 days significantly reduced uric acid concentrations in mice. Celery capsules at 330 mg/kg and 660 mg/kg also reduced symptoms in monosodium urate crystal-induced mice. In addition, celery capsules at 330 mg/kg and 660 mg/kg increased the pain threshold in Randall-Selitto test. It is suggested that flavonoids are related to hypouricemia, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of celery capsules.
