2.6.5 Classification of Volatile Oils

The most acceptable classification whereby volatile oils and volatile-oil containing drugs may be grouped together are as follows, namely:

(i) Hydrocarbon volatileoils,

(ii) Alcohol volatileoils,

(iii) Aldehyde volatileoils,

(iv) Ketone volatileoils,

(v) Phenol volatileoils,

(vi) Phenolic ethervolatile oils,

(vii) Oxide volatileoils, and

(viii) Ester volatileoils.
